My thoughts are easily explained through quotations:
"Strive for perfection in everything. Take the best that exists and make it better. If it does not exist, create it. Accept nothing nearly right or good enough."
--Sir Henry Royce
"Whenever people say we mustn't be sentimental, you can take it they are about to do something cruel. And if they add, we must be realistic, it means they are going to make money out of it."
--Brigid Brophy, British writer.
"Simplicity is the glory of expression"
--Walt Whitman
"All is one. One is all."
--Walt Silver
Great Bhuddist Philosopher (and possibly Bhudda himself!)
"And this too shall pass..."

I surprise myself at times when it comes to CDs. I will purchase them, listen to them once or twice, put them away, and forget they never existed. I will then (on days such as today) re-discover them and find out just how fantastic they really are. I pulled out a copy of the motion picture soundtrack Ocean's 13, which combines electronic and jazz to make a unique (albeit a tad strange) genre of its own appeal. Not only was the music good, but the recording quality was actually good as well (not the case for many 'popular' movies).. The sounstage was peppered with small, subtle sounds from instruments such as spoons, triangles, electric guitar and some vocals, while the main action took place front center and front right. Again, nothing I would use as reference material, but just a go

If anybody can get a hold of a BMW audiophile demonstration disc, it is a worthwhile investment. I have been listening to one for a while and have found all of the tracks a real challenge for my home system. It was only until I listened on the reference system that I could hear all the album has to offer.
I have seen and heard many systems, and they all utilize cables in different manners than the other. What I mean by that is that some systems will use cables to 'compensate' for an apparent loss in their system - more air, more bass, more detail...you get it. Other systems will use cables to attenuate certain qualities - to tone down brightness, bass, etc. Other systems still find that a proper

Sounds like you had a good night of listening. I have a love/hate relation with multi-channel recordings, as they can be hit/miss, but anybody who listens to SACD is a friend of mine.
That being said, I must disagree with your assessment on center channel importance in a 5.1 setup. Understandably, multi-channel music is a completely different animal than movies, but I do find a similar
