A few days ago, I completed a power supply upgrade (designed and sourced from Dan Wright), on my Modwright SWP 9.0 SE phono stage. A substantial improvement on an already very good-sounding component.
On the hunt for a 2-channel preamp with home theater bypass and a good phono stage. Or a A/V Pre-pro with good 2-channel sound. Or some other way to have my 2-channel cake and eat the 7.1 too.
Today a customer and I hooked up a set of Tannoy Autograph Mini's to a JoLida FX 10 (upgraded). The source was a modified Music Hall 25.2, and wire was Analysis Plus Oval. Nothing special, right? The sound blew us away-musical purely defined, big stage with depth, and solidity of the notes and voices. Everything you want in a system. Diana Krall was in the room, her band wrapped around and behind her. Plus her voice was so suductive and sexy. LOVE Tubes. It is one of the best systems in our showroom-and all by accident (never thought of using them together). The rest of the stuff we have is top notch, but what a great system.
Looking forward to seeing old friends at RMAF this year and making new ones. We will have pure power one 5.0s in 5 rooms and a new "se" on static display at the Cable Company exhibit in the main lobby. I'll be taking that to a few rooms for audiions after hours.
Haven't checked in here for awhile, but I'm glad Tomaz is still posting cool music. I've been thinking about how the site seems to have become a bit dormant, which is a pity because it was so much fun when it was on the rise and everybody was contributing. I can't imagine why an audio site built on the premise of being friendly and informative isn't more popular or able to retain a loyal following. Could it be that audio blogs and boards only thrive when posters rank on each other and compete to squirrel out the most insidious "insider" gossip? I hope not.
I had the privilage of having my dad (David Wilson) come over to help calibrate my sub. Was very educational (not to mention a lot of fun!). I was having so much fun going through his CD case listening to some of his demo CD's that he left them here with me to listen to until Thursday. Needless to say, I am enjoying beautiful music as I type this!
Just wanted to let everyone in the LA area in on a gig I'll be doing with the Skip Spiro Little Big Band in the Valley on Monday, May 3: ---- Happy Hour For Hipsters!
