Blackmore V2... the evolution of perfection

So now that you have seen the original Blackmore in the other discussion, I was so enthralled emotionally and performance wise with them, I felt that I could truly make a loudspeaker that can compete with any mfg at any price point..

The next step was choosing a midbass/bass driver to augment the Lowther. And after many tough days I decided on the Dynaudio MW170's. Dyn's do midbass perfectly as they have both the note and tone that can only be surpassed by Audio Technology IMO..

Once again the Lowther has to be baffle-less and the enclosure that the Dyn's will be in has to impose as little coloration as possible. So great pains were taken to breakup internal reflections and waves and at the same time randomize resonance modes and add cross bracing for rigidity which most mfg's who do a translam approach fail to do..

Off to the shop were 2 days was spent making the master jigs as they have to provide all variances needed for every layer..

Then off to cutting wood.. Each loudspeaker requires 21 pieces

Notice the randomizing of the enclosure..

Everything is in place and I test fitted the Dyns along with applying fiberglass to a few small transition areas.

From Cardas with love.. The Lowthers are using the SE11 speaker cable while the Dyns are using the Crosslink. Binding posts are their flagship Rhodium Siver bad boys.

The next few days were used to finish all the body work and making it ready to primer

To be different and use non traditional mediums, I decided to use a rich brown suede for the inserts.

Then a thick layer of slicksand is applied and the next 2 days were spent block sanding to perfection

After looking at literally hundreds of colors, I decided to do a Porsche green metallic. I tend to gravitate towards drab metallics as they offer a very beautiful presentation.

Now off to final assembly....

And the veneer couldn't be a more prefect fit.

WOW Randy this is totally awesome. You will have art museums fighting over who gets to "world premiere" your sculpture! It looks like man-years of work time. Ten thumbs up on the randomizing internal ribs!!! For production will you use polyester Gel Coat over the entire wood? When the Gel Coat soaks into the wood it becomes incredibly strong, tough and environmentally stable.

Thanks Alan!!!! Slicksand and Gel Coat share allot of the same traits.. Slicksand is also a polyester resin based material that has minimal shrinkage if mixed and applied properly.. and sands like a breeze.. It's rock hard as well.. and it's all I use as I believe in using as minimal of materials as possible to eliminate any issues..

Very pretty speakers, Randy. Watched their progress as you posted on Facebook at little at a time. Both efforts in speakers are something to be very proud of. Way to go!
